Mr Grantham's Charlie Wilcox Class Project
Please Note: The following presentation is not intended to be viewed by students in Kindergarten to grade 3. Furthermore, adult guidance is recommended for intermediate students as the content includes visual, audio and thematic content related to war. Specifically, the video includes simulated sounds of guns firing and bombs exploding. There are also archived photographs showing battlefield conditions of World War 1, and actors dramatizing intense scenes.
After many months of reading two novels by Canadian Author, Sheron E. McKay, Charlie Wilcox and Charlie Wilcox's Great War, and exploring the themes of loyalty, friendship and courage, both in the historical context of World War I and in present day current events, students created a walk through "museum" and produced a culminating video production about their learning. As depicted in the photos below, this multi-disciplined integrated inquiry project introduced students to new skills including researching and building authentic models (both miniature and life size), effective use of hand tools (saws, drills, etc.) dramatization, creative writing, and video production. Congratulations to the students for a year long endeavor turned into a celebration of learning.
