PARENT SPEAKER SERIES- presented by our Brackendale PAC
Come join us during our Parent Speaker Series, presented to you by our Brackendale PAC. We are hosting several experienced speakers at the school over the next few months. These topics are to help bring more tools and resources to parents throughout the community with different topics and discussions. Presentations are free to attend, and all parents, caregivers and staff are welcome to join us!
Parent Speaker Series #1 Presenter: Kelly Clarke
Topic: Sensory Processing & Self-Regulation
Date/Time: Thursday, April 18th at 7pm - 8:30pm
Location: Brackendale School Library
Details: Come see Kelly Clarke, a pediatric occupational therapist, to discuss how Sensory Processing affects self-regulation in children. Learn how being over or under-responsive to certain types of sensory input can affect a child's behavior and regulation. Also learn the new research on how interoception, or the ability to tune into and understand our body cues, affects emotional regulation.
Parent Speaker Series #2 Presenter: Julie Miller
Topic: Nurturing Resilient Children
Date/Time: Thursday, May 16th at 7pm - 8:30pm
Location: Brackendale School Library
All parents and caregivers are welcome
Details: Come meet Julie Miller, she has a unique range of experience as a social worker, clinical counsellor (both privately and in schools), yoga teacher, sleep consultant and more. In Nurturing Resilient Kids presentation, parents access skills to effectively address deeper issues so children feel heard and understood, understand how to get to the root of the problem to meet the underlying body image need, and connect with how to support and build resilience in kids so unhealthy coping mechanisms aren’t of concern.
Brackendale PAC Needs YOU!!!
The PAC executive committee is volunteer-run, as are all of the PAC organized events. The committee fundraises to bring extra-curricular activities, sports, events, new equipment, hot lunch programs, and much more to our school, which would otherwise not happen. Some of the current PAC executives have been in their roles for the last 4-5 years, and some are ready to pass the torch or have kids who are leaving the school at the end of this year or next. We are therefore seeking new executive members for the 24/25 school year.
New members will be voted in for a 1-year term at the AGM on May 7th, 2024. The commitment is 1 meeting per month, along with various administrative or organizational duties, depending on the role. There will be some members staying on in their roles, who can offer support and guidance to anyone new.
The following positions will not be filled by current PAC executive members:
- President
- Secretary
- Social Media Coordinator
We also need new LEAD volunteers to take over from existing volunteers, for the following annual fundraising programs
- Hot Lunch Coordinator (sharing with existing coordinator)
- Purdy’s Fundraising Coordinator
- Mabel Labels Coordinator
- Lost & Found Coordinator
Upcoming PAC Meeting: (second week after Spring Break)
Date: Tuesday, April 9th
Time: 6:30pm
Location: School Library
All parents are caregivers are encouraged to attend
Complimentary babysitting available on-site
Come and meet the PAC executive, and hear about all the great events and activities planned for this spring!!
Family Yard Sale on Saturday, April 27th
This will be held in the parking lot like last year and open to the whole community. This is a great way to get the community together and get everyone into spring cleaning mode. This will be a rain or shine event, if needed we can move into the gym. Table spaces are $25.00 each. This includes table/area to set up your goods plus advertising in the community.
Come sell your stuff! OR if you or your child have a craft that they want to sell this is a great little entrepreneurial experience ;)
Brackendale Community Yard Sale Registration
Please fill out the registration form to secure your table ASAP so we can plan accordingly!

BC Transit Bus Changes for Brackendale Elementary Stop
BC Transit works hard to maintain a safe and respectful environment on their buses for both customers and drivers in the Squamish Transit System.
Due to ongoing challenges with behavior on buses and at bus stops, changes are being made to two daytime trips on the Route 1 Brackendale/Downtown, effective April 15 through June 28:
- Route 1 at 11:31am will no longer stop at Brackendale Elementary School and Don Ross Middle School.
- Route 1 at 3:12 pm will no longer stop at Brackendale Elementary School and will proceed directly to Don Ross Middle School.
- 3:14 pm Route 1 bus will continue to make stops at both schools to provide sufficient service for customers at both locations.
BC Transit appreciates the ongoing support and collaboration with the Administration at both schools, and will continue to closely monitor these locations to ensure they are providing safe and reliable transportation.
