Welh Tima Kexwusem Dance Group

j

As part of our preparations for National Day of Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th, the Welh Tima Kexwusem dance group came to our school to share teachings through song and dance.

Elder and Knowledge Keeper, Charlene Williams, encouraged everyone to lift up the hearts of those who may feel sadness on the day of Truth and Reconciliation.

In celebration, we all danced as Spakwus, (eagle), Mixalh (bear), Tkáya (wolf) and Yo-yos (orca) and learned to say Chen kw'enmántumi which means thank you in Skwxwú7mesh.

National Day of Truth and Reconciliation Day and Orange Shirt Day

Chen kw'enmántumi (I am thankful) for the teachings of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh elder, Linda Williams, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh knowledge keeper, Deanna Lewis, who helped us raise our Survivors’ Flag. It was an important day of learning, lifting up hearts, and uniting school and community.

I am grateful for the wisdom and guidance of Nicole Baker and Maureen Baker, who helped us make our student lead program meaningful and memorable.

Congratulations to our students, Hunter, KC and Aria, for bravely accepting the challenge to speak as our MCs.  You surpassed expectations!

The heartfelt messages in the cards made by students as gifts to the elders will go on to lift the hearts of many people.  Our Brackendale school family proudly affirms that Every Child Matters.

Chen kw'enmántumiyap (I am thankful to you all),

Ms. Saenger, Principal

Terry Fox Generosity

Reading the messages, photos and stories of learning around the school about Terry Fox have been so uplifting. d

After adding up the donations from all our classes, our Brackendale School Community has raised over $500 for the Terry Fox Foundation. Wow!

Thank you kids and families for being a part of this important cause.

 Terry Fox continues to inspire!

Was great to see our local Police out in front of our school a few times the past couple of weeks.

Not only were they pulling over school zone speeders, but were seen having laughs and building relationships with the kids and the community. All amidst a light rainfall and changing autumn hues.

Welcome Parents to 2023-2024 hot lunch days at Brackendale Elementary!

We encourage you to order all hot lunch days that are available at the same time so your child does not miss out. Please follow the link and register your child if you would like to place an order.

There is a donation option in the order form to help provide hot lunch for another student who may wish to partake but is not able to at this time due to cost. Your contribution will go directly to food cost. The goal is to continue to have a more inclusive school experience for everyone.

There is also an option if you would like assistance, just a tick box on the order form for each hot lunch day and our program will cover the costs.

Volunteers are always welcome on the Hot Lunch Days!

Please email Krista Breu at [email protected] if there are any questions.

Late orders will NOT be accepted. Thank you for your support and looking forward to the school year ahead!
