Premier David Eby announced three measures to support kids’ wellbeing, safety and education.  These measures include:

  • Restricting the use of cellphones in schools;
  • Launching services to remove images from the internet and pursue predators, and
  • Legislation to hold social media companies accountable for the harm they have caused.

"Today, kids live with different challenges than they did a generation ago, and they face them all in the palm of their hand,” said Premier David Eby. “While cellphones, the internet and social media help us connect with each other, they also present risks that can harm kids. The impact and influence of these tools is so great, and the corporations so powerful, it can be overwhelming for parents.” (Source: BC Gov News)

To help Parents/Caregivers with social media safety, SD#48, in collaboration with Safer Schools Together, is offering a FREE virtual event. Topics include a snapshot of current trends and concerning apps as well as recommendations for family guidelines and parental controls.

FEBRUARY- MONTH OF KINDNESS & FRIENDSHIP

February at BRE is a time when we all focus on kindness, empathy and gratitude. Student leadership is planning a Friendship Dance on Feb. 14th and we will have a Friendship theme for our school assembly on Feb. 27th.D

Many children like to celebrate friendship on Valentine’s Day by giving something to their classmates. Our school values include taking care of the environment, promoting healthy habits, and supporting equity amongst students.

D

For these reasons, we ask that your child bring only paper cards to share on Valentine’s Day (please do not send candy, toys, or any other extra items to hand out). You are also welcome to help your child make their own Valentines. Handmade cards are equally valued.

If your child participates, please ensure that they have a Valentine for every child in their class. Your classroom teacher can provide a list of student first names.  Teachers will choose the time of day that works best for students to hand out cards.

Thank you for helping us to celebrate friendship at Brackendale in a kind, healthy, environmentally friendly way!

Antarctica Presentation

A local teacher was chosen by National Geographic and Lindblad Expeditions as a 2023 Grosvenor Teacher Fellow, to go on an expedition to Antarctica. She came to our school to present on her experience to a few lucky classes. Carrie read a story about Antarctica, showed her slideshow presentation, and made the cutest penguin craft!
